Space Vents

Sofia University's Department of Physics invited us to paint a mural for them. Their campus includes large experimental facilities which require steady ventilation. The campus is surrounded by vent clusters designed in brutalist fashion. We worked with Professor Stoil Ivanov, who gave us guidance on the theme of the project.

We were asked to visualize some of the discoveries made on-campus. But how does an artist select and wrap his head around the complicated field of Physics? And, moreover, how does one translate said discoveries into visuals, let alone 3D geometric structures?

We selected the discovery of the X-Boson, exoplanet spectrography, carbon nano-structures, and black hole photography as our primary subjects. We used color and line as unifying design elements to create continuity across the vents. We utilized stencils to achieve a clean, scientific look.
