Digital Illustration

My digital work is 100% client based. It stems from my traditional art practice, but is always for commercial purposes such as packaging illustrations, illustrations for digital and traditional publishing, etc.

I use iPad’s Procreate app to draw digitally. There's a rich variety of textures and digital mediums to be applied, and I find this tool to have endless commercial utility, especially when a client is after a very specific artistic aesthetic.

Vector images are not pixel-based (raster) but instead math-based. Each line, and the shapes it forms, are encoded as mathematical formulas by the software, thus creating images that can be scaled up infinitely without loss of resolution. This is particularly useful when making large signage or when the graphics will be used by digital fabrication equipment like laser cutters, CNC machines, water-jet and so on. Another benefit of vector graphics is color control, as each element in the artwork is assigned a numerical color value that can be reproduced exactly the same each time regardless of who or where the printing vendor is.
